Course curriculum: Mars Survival Guide

Mars Survival Guide Campers will take a closer look at the tools we will need to conduct experiments and build safe habitats on Mars. We will practice tools of the mind, tools of the hand, and tools of technology to complete this mission! MEGA Campers will build use the 4 Ps: Passion, Projects, Peers, and Play, to make sure our time on Mars is done in the Skyrock Way!

Some of the things we will make:
- Simulate colonization through agriculture.
- Electrolysis on the martian ice caps to form oxygen
- A robot arm using gears and pneumatics
- A model spacecraft
- Machinery for payload pickups
- A robot arm to pick up samples from Mars
- A Mars lander simulation

Some of the things we will learn:
- Newton’s 3rd Law of Resultant Forces
- How to get into orbit from Earth’s surface
- How to use acceleration to simulate gravity
- Complex engineering and robotics concepts
- Kepler’s Second Law to model the orbits of planets
- Why NASA sends rovers to Mars

Course curriculum: Ocean Task Force

At Skyrock we believe that if one thing is certain, it's that the future of our planet is going to need some out of the box thinkers to solve some extremely complex environmental issues. To make sure our oceans are cleaner, safer and used in a sustainable way, we need the skills of Skylock's OCEAN TASK FORCE to help protect our aquatic wonderland. At Skyrock, the future is now! Using STEAM skills to think sustainably, Micro Kids in Ocean Task Force will dive deep into ocean science and learn about engineering underwater by using the 4 Ps: Passion, Projects, Peers and Play.

Some of the things we will do:
- Dissect fish and investigate anatomical adaptations.
- Investigate the science of ocean acidification
- Create a mesocosm
- Engineer a solution for the collecting plastics
- Explore Artificial Intelligence
- Build a MakeCode Arcade game project

Some of the things we will learn:
- How to grow bacteria
- How to safely use surgical tools
- How a sustainable life cycle in a closed system works
- How to draw and animate characters with code
- How plastics harm the ocean environment

Course curriculum: Rainforest Rangers

At Skyrock we believe that if one thing is certain, it's that the future of our planet is going to need some out of the box thinkers to solve some extremely complex environmental issues. To make sure our forests are healthier, safer and used in a sustainable way, we need the skills of Skylock's RAINFOREST RANGERS to help protect our vibrant forests. At Skyrock, the future is now! Using STEAM skills to think sustainably, students in RAINFOREST RANGERS will tackle the tough challenges of environmental disasters by experimenting with future technologies to solve problems. At Skyrock even the most serious issues will be solved using our 4 Ps: Passion, Projects, Peers and Play.

Some of the things we will do:
- Grow our own plants and experiment with soil
- Build windmills that outputs kinetic energy
- Create a visual representation of the rainforest
- Code a rainforest game in Makecode
- Bring the Mayan calendar to life

Some of the things we will learn:
- How energy transformation occurs
- How we capture energy and turn it into electricity
- Why renewable energy generation is important
- How to apply the scientific method
- How to use conditional logic
- How sustainable architecture works

How do I sign up?

a. Skyrock STEAM for Advanced EN: Kindergarten, Grade 1, Grade 2-4, Grades 5-6
b. Atomic STEAM for intermediate EN: Grade 1, Grade 2-3, Grades 4-6
2 > Select the week, location, and date that's right for you.
3 > Use our online checkout system to reserve by paying a 50% deposit.

What are the payment terms?

1 > Reserve by paying a 50% deposit using our online checkout system.
2 > Pay the remaining balance 30-45 days before the camps begins.

What happens if the Covid-19 situation worsens and the classes cannot run in-person due to lockdown?

In the event of lockdown, Skyrock will provide the class online and the deposit can be used against the cost of the online program. For those customers who do not wish to attend the online camp, their deposit can be kept in Skyrock credit for use against a future Skyrock class or camp.

Does my child need any coding experience to attend?

No, all Skyrock students begin their STEAM learning journey by studying the fundamentals first. We provide the devices on site.

Is Skyrock a school or a program?

Skyrock is a STEAM learning program, we are not a school. We design our own curriculum materials. We train our own teachers as well as other teachers at our partner site to teach our program. Additionally, we help schools set up and maintain maker classrooms for teaching our program.
